Solutions for your Health Issues

Therapists at Willamette Wellness Spa do not diagnose illnesses and recommend individuals to consult with their physician to get a proper diagnosis for their ailments.

If your health issue is not discussed here, please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss a personalized treatment plan.

WE RECOMMEND THE FOLLOWING THERAPIES:

Cancer

We are trained to offer massage for clients with Cancer through teaching by Gayle MacDonald, MS, LMT and her program; Medicine Hands: Massage for People living with Cancer. She teaches comfort-oriented massage or touch that can be administered to people with cancer regardless of the severity of their condition. Significant time is devoted to hands-on practice.

Lymphatic Drainage Therapy focuses on the removal of toxins from the body and is another wonderful option for people with Cancer, with the exclusion of those who have Lymphedema as they need to be seen by a Lymphedema specialist.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Recommended therapies, see information for Fibromyalgia.

With Chronic Fatigue Syndrome we can also recommend aromatherapy to be included with your massage. Aromas can have a strong influence on your system and your therapist can discuss with you which ones would be most effective for your situation.

Chronic Pain

Recommended therapies, see information for Fibromyalgia.

Reflexology is another option for those suffering from Chronic Pain as it reduces the onset of pain and increases tolerance to pain. Especially helpful dealing with pain following surgery, lower back pain, menstrual pain and sinusitis.

Constipation

Research shows that multiple Reflexology sessions impacts the digestive system of healthy individuals and relieves constipation.

With Massage, the stomach and intestine area are usually not part of the session. However there are very beneficial massage methods available focusing on your digestive system that can be included.

Please discuss your ailments with your therapist before the start of your session.

Diabetes

In advanced diabetes clients will have very poor circulation. Clients may be unable to feel the pressure applied during a session, this could cause damage.

Lymphatic Drainage Therapy is one of few bodywork therapies recommended. CranioSacral Therapy works on a deep level and is applied with only 5 grams of pressure and is therefore another therapy recommended.

Fibromyalgia

Hot Stone Massage: A light Swedish massage might work for most, but a Deep Tissue massage will most likely leave you in tears the next day or two. Your body just can’t handle the deep muscle work and will also have a hard time getting rid of all the stirred up toxins (waste products) in your body, no matter how much water you drink.

However a Hot Stone massage is very gentle on your body and muscles and because it combines the therapy with heat it penetrates all the way down to the deepest levels of your muscles. It feels comforting, is relaxing and has great results.

Here at Willamette Wellness Spa we combine the Body Stone massage with aromatherapy to balance your senses too.

For those of you who are having serious effects from Fibromyalgia and still would like to receive bodywork, this therapy is wonderful and proven to relief your symptoms.

Lymphatic Drainage Therapy focuses on the removal of toxins from the body, by bringing the  toxins through the lymph system to the liver and out of the body. With Fibromyalgia the toxins built up and cause pain in the muscles and all through the body. Exercise, like walking, helps the lymph move through the system as does Lymphatic Drainage Therapy. A series of once or twice weekly 30 minute treatments is highly recommended for those suffering from Fibromyalgia. Also wonderful in combination with a Reflexology treatment that focuses on detoxification.

CranioSacral Therapy, also called “the healing power of gentle touch”. Recommended for those with Fibromyalgia as it releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction. CST influences the central nervous system and improves the body’s ability to take better care of itself.

Sessions are deeply relaxing and can be combined with other therapies like Lymphatic Drainage Therapy to help rid the body of build-up toxins (waste product removal) or with Reiki to add energy work to your session.

Discuss your options with your therapist as she can make your personalized session to fit your needs.

Hypertension – high blood pressure

Specific physiological and chemical changes cascade throughout the body with Swedish massage. In research high blood pressure clients demonstrated lower diastolic blood pressure, anxiety and stress hormones.

Reflexology works on pressure points on the feet related to your adrenals, kidneys, solar plexus and spine. We work on your nervous system and induce relaxation and this helps in lowering your blood pressure.

Migraines and Headaches

There are many reasons why people get headaches and migraines. Once we can figure out what triggers the pain, we can start creating a plan to treat it.

When the pain is related to muscle tensions, posture or habitual movements then massage focused on the related muscle groups can be very beneficial.

Reflexology can help through activating pressure points that relate to the spine, low back, shoulder, neck or head, stimulating the lymph areas and by looking at the way one stands on their feet. Stress induced headaches react well to both massage and Reflexology.

CranioSacral Therapy focuses on the cranial bones (bones of the head), the spinal cord all the way down to the sacrum (tail bone), the cranial fluid pressure and rhythm and the central nervous system. It works on a deep level to find obstructions and find ways to release these and create balance. Special techniques also help people with TMJ issues. This therapy is highly recommended as treatment for those suffering with migraines and headaches.

Osteoporosis

CranioSacral Therapy and Reiki are recommended therapies for more advanced osteoporosis. Only very gentle Reflexology can be used for advanced osteoporosis.

Plantar Fasciitis / Heel Spurs

After initial rest, treatment with ice and possibly anti-inflammatory drugs, Integrative Reflexology can be very beneficial. We look at the way you stand and walk, when the pain started, the severity of the pain and where it is located exactly. We work on certain areas of the foot and the calf muscle of that leg. We talk about stretches for you foot and calf and offer the Footlog as a tool to help with relaxation of the plantar muscle under your foot. If we feel that your issue needs additional care, we do not hesitate to refer you to your physician or podiatrist.

Stress

Swedish Massage and Reflexology both induce relaxation. From the moment therapist hands start their work, endorphins (amino acids that work as the body’s natural painkiller) are being released and relaxation begins. Pulse rate slows down and blood pressure decreases. An EEG taken during a reflexology session shows that the brain immediately goes into a more relaxed state.

Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that is very beneficial in reducing stress and emotional ailments. It helps to break up energy blockages and stimulate the body's natural ability to heal itself on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level. It can bring you into a profound state of relaxation, peace and balance.

TMJ Syndrome

Craniosacral Therapy is highly recommended. See Migraines and Headaches.
